Debbie Bozarth

I am a mother of 4 wonderful children and have a husband who is the "light of my life". I am a certified Doula as well as a massage therapist and childbirth educator. I live in the beautiful Napa valley and I was in my first year of midwifery school when I decided that as important as the actual delivering of a baby was, the role of the Doula is even more important.

I have had the fortune in my life to be able to give birth to 7 babies. I had my three girls and then wanted the opportunity to be able to help other couples fulfill their dreams of being parents so I became a "surrogate mother". I went on to deliver two sets of twins. Along with having my own babies it was probably one of the most rewarding things I have ever done.

The support a woman receives at her birth is something that will help to give her the satisfaction and the feeling of power that she will cherish for a lifetime. Often expectant couples feel that having their close friends and family present for the birth is all the support they need. After the birth most of those same parents feel like things could have gone somewhat differently as far as how their support worked for them. I remember back to my birth of my 1st child, 15 years ago. I had my husband and my mother there. It was a very quick birth but I remember feeling like I wished I had someone in the room just for me. They were talking among themselves and occasionally flipping channels on the TV and would say, "That was a good one" when I had a nice strong contraction. They were supportive but not what I needed at the time.

I wanted to become that woman at the birth of other women who was there 100% for them. Who never left their side and who could help the father's when things got stressful and it looked like no end in sight, so I became a "Doula". I love what I do and I love the opportunity I have at births to make a positive and cherished birth memory for everyone!

Testimonials

This was my best experience! Our doula was great and it was nice to have a “friend” there knowing what to do and say. It was very helpful emotionally since my husband was unavailable for the birth (Flying back from Japan). I felt like I could ask Debbie questions and it just felt right.

Debbie's services, as a doula, educator, and masseuse, were integral to the beautiful memory of my pregnancy and the birth of my son.

You give the best back massage and I will never forget the instant relief I felt when I was in labor having really strong consecutive contractions. When you massaged my back it caused me to instinctively straighten up and I could feel my back being stretched out which gave me a sense of total pain relief. It was unbelievable, you obviously knew what you were doing! I will also never forget how reassured I felt holding your hands when I was in agony for the last hour of labor when all I wanted to do was push and I could not. Your hands felt so warm and I felt so safe and confident that I could keep going when I just did not know what to do with myself with the pain!

Having you there was the only reason I was able to have a vaginal delivery. You were able to remind me of the birth I wanted when I was too exhausted to remember or care. I felt so vulnerable in the hospital, like I was at the mercy of the doctors -- them vs. me -- and I was unbelievably grateful to have someone there just to be on my side. You ended up making all the difference in the world, because after a couple of days of labor you were the only person in the room who still believed I could do it -- when my husband, the doctors, and I were all ready to give up and go for a c-section, you reminded me that I could make it happen. I have such happy and proud memories of pushing William out into the world and I know I wouldn't have those memories if you hadn't been there -- thank you!!!

Debbie was the calming force in the delivery room. Where nurses, and doctors were busy elsewhere, she was informative and a monumental support. Debbie was instrumental in Nathaniel's birth being a blessed event free of worry, epidurals, or anxiety. It was a peaceful and joyous occasion."
